Andreas Kolb breaks wrist in NZ

Austrian UCI Downhill World Cup winner injured on pre-season riding trip

Continental Atherton MTB Race Team’s, Andreas Kolb, has broken his radius during a pre-season riding trip to New Zealand. The 27 year-old took to social media to admit that he was returning home to undergo more scans but was hopeful that it was ‘only’ a break to one of the two larger bones in his left forearm.

Kolb stunned the world of downhill racing when he took a debut home win at the second round of the 2023 UCI Downhill World Cup season in Austria. His victory not only cemented him as the first Austrian elite men’s winner in Leogang but also backed up Valentina Höll’s triumph in the elite women’s category.

A silver medal at the UCI Cycling World Championships in Fort William followed later in the summer for Kolb behind his teammate, Charlie Hatton. He would finish the season fifth in the UCI Downhill World Cup overall to cement a coming-of-age season for the big man from Schladming.

Many of the top UCI Mountain Bike World Series pro’s head to the southern hemisphere, New Zealand in particular, for pre-season training camps. The opening round of this season’s UCI Downhill World Cup kicks off in Fort William, Scotland 03 – 05 May. Tickets are available here.
